Beauty begins on the inside. When it comes to skincare, that means paying attention to what you put in your body as well as what you put on it. Using the right moisturizer for your skin type is only part of the equation. For truly healthy, radiant skin, experts recommend a nutrient-rich diet. Try to stay away from processed foods, please. Your skin craves fresh fruits and vegetables, wholesome carbohydrates and fiber, lean proteins, a certain amount of healthy fats and lots of hydration.
Get glowing! When it comes to feeding your skin, you have lots of delicious options. Among the top choices are almonds, avocadoes, blueberries, eggs, salmon, tomatoes and foods rich in Vitamin C, such as kiwis, oranges, red and green peppers, grapefruit, strawberries, broccoli, cantaloupe, pineapple and mangos.
Avocadoes – which contain biotin, the basis of healthy skin – are a great choice. They’re packed with heart- and skin-healthy monounsaturated fats (MUFAs) that help provide the fats and ceramides crucial for creating healthy skin cells. Research shows that MUFAs may also ease itchy, dry skin.

- 3 each Hass Avocados
- 2 each Persian Limes
- 2 each Jalapenos, chopped
- 10 each Beefsteak Tomatoes, chopped in small pieces
- ¼ c Water
- Salt to taste
– In a blender add the tomatoes and a large pinch of salt and blend for 20 seconds. Put the puree in a fine mesh strainer with a container on the bottom and let sit for 1 hour to strain. Make sure you don’t push the puree through the strainer because it will get murky and it will oxidize the avocado.
– Put the jalapeno and the water in the blender and blend for 30 seconds. Strain the liquid and reserve.
– Put the avocado pulp, juice of the 2 limes, strained tomato water and some of the jalapeno juice in the blender and season lightly with salt. Blend until smooth and silky.
For a treat your skin will love, serve this as a dipping sauce with shrimp or any other seafood or as a base for a light salad.
