Never mind all the clipping, tweezing, filing, buffing, and polishing…our favorite part of a nail appointment is the part that makes you just want to…melt! The calming sensation of having your hands and feet dipped in melted paraffin wax achieves a moment like no other. It is a moment of serene release that reaches far beyond just the hands and feet.

Yet like all of our signature spa treatment steps, the inclusion of paraffin wax has been carefully planned and has a rhyme and a reason beyond just delivering the warm fuzzies. Thermotherapy at its finest, a paraffin wax treatment surpasses the benefits of hot stones or even a warm towel wrap. As wax is able to retain and trap heat tightly against the skin, it causes even the most stubborn pores open up.

Think of the skin’s open pores as a type of fertile soil ready to receive moisture and produce a visibly abundant harvest. As the pores open, the wax strips away undesired grime, excess oil, and dead skin while simultaneously re-moisturizing. Paraffin wax is what is known as a natural emollient, meaning it naturally softens and smooths the skin. Yes, please!

So what type of visibly abundant harvest are we talking about here? Keep in mind that paraffin wax can be used to treat areas other than just the hands and feet. Take for example the face. Experts heartily recommend facial wax treatments since they include the benefits mentioned above and support the skin’s total absorption and retention of all serums and crèmes used during the facial.

Results include a clean, even, and bright skin tone. Wax treatment is also associated with the reduction of wrinkles as it relaxes tight, exhausted facial muscles. Internally, the goal is to almost literally “melt away” tension and relieve pain.

Therefore, wax therapy is often linked to a means of relief for individuals dealing with discomfort from arthritis, fibromyalgia, and similar ailments. The application of intense heat stimulates increased blood flow and relaxation, helping relieve joint pain and reduce muscle spasms.

Although Spa Theology does not offer a full wax treatment for the face or body, we are passionate about the Eco-fin wax treatment used in our Signature Manicure and Pedicure. All natural and petroleum free, Eco-fin is a natural alternative to paraffin wax which delivers all of the same benefits to a T!
