The Importance of Drinking Water

Your body is mostly WATER!! Fully half to two thirds of your body is composed of this essential nutrient. Drinking water on a regular basis is essential to keeping your body hydrated which supports the cells in the work they do for us.

The many benefits of adequate water consumption include:

  1. Relief of fatigue.
  2. Improved mood
  3. Digestive assistance
  4. Flushing out toxins
  5. Maintaining the balance of body fluids
  6. Aiding in weight loss or maintenance
  7. Keeping skin looking good

So, how much water should a person drink per day to realize these benefits? Studies have produced varying recommendations and the ideal amount is affected by how active the person is, one’s overall health and where one lives. The Institute of Medicine determined that men need 13 cups or 3 liters a day of fluids and women require 9 cups or 2.2 liters per day. All fluids except alcohol count. Additionally, fruit and vegetable consumption contribute to daily water needs and can account for up to 20% of fluid intake.

A person is attaining adequate hydration if they do not feel thirsty and one’s urine is colorless or light yellow.

Consider making water your beverage of choice, drinking a glass with each meal and whenever you exercise.
